Softball Opens Series with 2-0 Setback

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Campbell's Katelyn Hubley tossed a complete game shutout to claim the first game over UNCW with a 2-0 decision in the Coastal Athletic Association softball series opener on Thursday night at Boseman Field.

The Camels (32-19, 18-4 CAA) won their fourth straight game while the Seahawks (29-17, 16-6 CAA) will need to win both games of Friday's doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. to win the CAA South Division.

In a matchup of two of the top freshman in the conference, Hubley went the distance with seven strikeouts and two hits. UNCW freshman sensation Camille Hamilton (13-5) worked four innings of two-run ball before sophomore Lynsie Herman fired three scoreless innings of relief.

The Camels plated two runs in the second inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Hailey Krebs and a single by Emma Slutzah after working back-to-back walks to start the frame.

The Seahawks will honor three seniors - Carson Fleming, Grace Hennessy and Nico-Marie Ortiz – on Friday.
