WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW Athletics has announced a $3 million gift from Michael McCarley and Nancy Langevin, which is the largest philanthropic gift in Seahawk Athletics history. This monumental commitment will advance facility enhancements for the men's and women's tennis programs while establishing an endowed fund to support the continued success of men's basketball.
"We are incredibly grateful to Mike and Nancy for their generosity and continued commitment to UNCW Athletics," said Director of Athletics
Michael Oblinger. "This significant gift represents an important investment in the future of our men's and women's tennis programs and our men's basketball team. Their belief in our vision and dedication to Seahawk Athletics will create opportunities for our student-athletes to succeed both in competition and beyond, and we are thankful for their role in advancing the future of UNCW Athletics."
The gift will help bring a state-of-the-art tennis facility to UNCW's campus, providing a new home for men's and women's tennis. The facility will feature six championship-caliber courts, updated locker rooms for both programs, and enhanced seating for fans, creating an improved environment for student-athletes, coaches and supporters of Seahawk Tennis.
"Mike and Nancy have been huge UNCW Tennis supporters and have been very active in the local tennis community since I arrived at UNCW 19 years ago," said head men's tennis coach
Mait DuBois. "They have always had a lot of encouraging words and support over the years. They share our passion for elevating our program to being among the best in the country. This transformational gift is a huge stride forward and will help propel us to the lofty goals that we have set for the program. This facility will benefit not only our program but also our tennis community. It is so exciting what we will be able to bring to Wilmington with this kind of facility."
In addition to supporting the development and ongoing maintenance of the tennis facility, Mike and Nancy will establish an endowed fund for men's basketball. The fund will provide a dedicated source of support for the program, strengthening the department's ability to invest in its student-athletes and advance the long-term vision for UNCW Men's Basketball.
"We are incredibly grateful to Mike and Nancy for their generosity and commitment to our program," said head men's basketball coach
Takayo Siddle. "Their investment provides meaningful support to UNCW and reinforces the importance of creating championship opportunities for our student-athletes to succeed both on and off the court. We're excited about what this commitment means for the continued growth of Seahawk Basketball and look forward to building on that momentum in the years ahead."
Mike and Nancy are longtime supporters of UNCW Athletics, becoming members of the Seahawk Club in 1990. Their passion for enhancing the student-athlete experience is demonstrated in their investment in current and future Seahawks.
