Seahawks knockoff William & Mary, 5-4

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – RJ Sales won his league-leading eighth game of the season and UNCW scored four runs over the sixth and seventh innings as the Seahawks edged William & Mary, 5-4, on Friday in the Coastal Athletic Association series opener at Plumeri Park.

The Seahawks ran their record to 27-15 overall and jumped back into sole possession of first place with a 13-3 record. The Tribe dropped its sixth consecutive loss to slide to 25-17 and 8-8 in the league.

In the UNCW sixth, Trevor Marsh, who finished with two hits, knotted the game at 2-all with a single to left that was misplayed and allowed Aiden Evans to score. Bryan Arendt gave UNCW a 3-2 lead with a RBI fielder's choice and Brock Wills capped the scoring for a 4-2 lead with a RBI single to right.

Sales (8-2) held the Tribe to two runs, both coming in the fourth inning, on six hits and a pair of walks. He struck out five.

Luke Craig struck out four and allowed two runs on a hit over three innings out of the pen.

Nate Knowles (6-1) took his first loss of the season despite striking out a career-high nine in five-plus innings.
