Sales Rolls As UNCW Knocks Off The Aggies, 9-3

GREENSBORO, N.C. – RJ Sales scattered two hits over eight innings and UNCW rode the long ball Friday night as the Seahawks topped North Carolina A&T, 9-3, in Coastal Athletic Association action at War Memorial Stadium.

UNCW upped its record to 4-0 in the CAA and 15-11 overall with the road victory. NC A&T, meanwhile, dipped to 17-8 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Sales (5-1) allowed just two runs over eight innings, walked four and tied his career-high with eight strikeouts. He lowered his earned run average to 2.69.

Alec DeMartino, John Newton and Bryan Arendt all homered and Tanner Thach collected three hits.

Newton's homer, a three-run shot in the top of the third, gave UNCW a 5-2 lead it would never lose.

Coley Kilpatrick, the reigning CAA Pitcher of the Week, was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs over five innings. He surrendered six hits, including two home runs, walked three and struck out five.

The series continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. start.
