Late Goals Lift Men's Soccer to CAA Finals

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Late goals by freshman Osei Gyamfi and Cesare D'Amico lifted No. 6 UNCW over No. 2 Drexel, 2-0, in the Coastal Athletic Association Men's Soccer Semifinals on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field.

The Seahawks (6-8-5) advanced to the CAA Finals for the first time in five seasons where they will play at No. 4 Hofstra next Saturday at 7 p.m. The Dragons close their season at 9-6-2.

The tightly contested match-up saw only three combined shots in a scoreless first half but the chances picked up after intermission with both teams registering seven shot attempts in the second half.

With under 15 minutes to play, Gyamfi buried a ball into the back of the net on a rebound from a Bryan Miralrio blocked shot to give the Seahawks the late 1-0 advantage.

Redshirt freshman Trey Smiley recorded a shutout and did not allow a goal in regulation or overtime in both CAA Tournament contests (200 combined minutes) this weekend.

Roughly six minutes later, D'Amico made good on a one-on-one opportunity to add the insurance goal and send the Seahawks to their fourth-ever CAA Championship Game after previously appearing in 2009, 2017 and 2019.
