Diamond Hawks Drop 8-2 Decision At ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina finished off a sweep of the home-and-home series with UNCW Tuesday evening with an 8-2 win at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

ECU moved to 23-15 with its fourth consecutive win while the Seahawks saw their own three-game winning streak halted while falling to 21-14.

Evan Marsinko (0-1) took the loss for the Seahawks while CJ Mayhue improved to 3-1 with two innings of work in a designated start for the Pirates. Carter Spivey closed out the game for his third save of the season.

Lane Hoover had three hits while Bradley Newton added two hits and drove in two runs to lead the ECU lineup.

Matt Suggs doubled and homered for the Seahawks and Chris Thorburn added two hits in the leadoff spot. For Suggs, it was his ninth of the season and leads the Colonial Athletic Association.

How it happened: The Pirates jumped on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first. The first run came home on a UNCW error and Cam Clonch singled up the middle one batter later to make it 2-0.

Inside the box score: Thorburn extended his hitting streak to a career-long five games with a single to leadoff the game … Trevor Marsh made his first appearance since breaking a finger against William & Mary on March 25 … With nine walks tonight, UNCW pitchers have now walked at least eight batters in a game for the eighth time this season.

Up next: The Seahawks visit Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware for a three-game series beginning on Friday with a 7 p.m. start at Bob Hannah Stadium.
