Seahawks Announce 2017-18 Non-Conference Hoops Slate

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The C.B. McGrath Era at UNCW begins in early November with a matchup against N.C. Wesleyan and the men's basketball non-conference portion of the 2017-18 slate for the two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champions also features a pair of in-season tournaments in Savannah, Ga., and El Paso, Texas.
 
"We got here with our backs against the wall trying to get a schedule together," said McGrath, who took over the helm of the program in early April. "We tried to get an equal balance, and have four home games, four true road games and four neutral site games.
 
"We're excited about it. Getting a schedule completed this late was difficult because a lot of teams are not looking for games. I'm really pleased with the schedule, the competition and the different venues we're going to. I've always said we've wanted to play a competitive schedule and I think this will be competitive - it will tell us where we are."
 
The Seahawks christen the non-league ledger by hosting N.C. Wesleyan on Nov. 11 as part of an exempt tournament, the Savannah Invitational. UNCW travels to Georgia later in the month on Nov. 24-25 to compete in the four-team event at the Savannah Civic Center.
 
After taking on the Battling Bishops at Trask Coliseum, the Seahawks renew a series with Davidson at Belk Arena on Nov. 14 before returning home on Nov. 18 to play Campbell in the longest running series on record.
 
Following the tournament appearance in Savannah, the Seahawks embark on a three-game road swing to regional rival East Carolina on Nov. 30, LSU (Dec. 10) and UNC Greensboro (Dec. 13) before returning home to entertain Southern Conference member Furman on Dec. 17.
 
The Seahawks then travel west to El Paso, Texas, on Dec. 21-22 to participate in the WestStar Bank Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational, the oldest collegiate holiday basketball tournament in the country. In its 56th year, the tourney is held annually at UTEP's Don Haskins Center.
 
UNCW concludes its non-conference ledger on Dec. 28 when NCAA Division III Greensboro College visits Wilmington.
