McFarlane Leads UNCW To Second-Place Finish

MIDLOTHIAN, Virginia – Freshman Reese McFarlane finished one stroke off the lead and helped UNCW to a second-place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association championship on Sunday at the Salisbury Country Club.

FINAL RESULTS

The College of Charleston set a tournament record, finishing the tournament 23-strokes under par while posting a 13-stroke win over the second-place Seahawks. Towson, James Madison and Drexel rounded out the top five.

CofC's Parker Derby edged McFarlane by a stroke to win medalist honors. McFarlane carded a one-under-par 71 on the final 18 holes while Derby played an even-par round. For the tournament, McFarlane's 209 was a school record, eclipsing the previous mark of 210 set by Derek Brown in 2004 and equaled one year later by Brian Joyce.

UNCW's second-place finish was the best by the program since winning three consecutive titles from 2011-1013. All three rounds played by UNCW were top-10 scores in the program history. Consecutive scores of 283 in the first and second rounds were tied for second all-time and Sunday's 288 was tied for eighth. UNCW's final stroke total of 854 was a program record by two strokes.

Joining McFarlane with a top-10 finish was junior Patrick Cover with a ninth-place showing. Thomas Elsridge and Thomas Lilly finished tied for 19th.Stephen Saleeby was 32nd.
