Indoor Volleyball Adds Three For 2017

Wilmington, North Carolina – UNCW Head Volleyball Coach Amy Bambenek has announced the additions of Michaela White, Caroline Marsh and Anna Weissmann for the 2017-18 season.

White joins the program this spring following two seasons as a setter at Charlotte where she played in 14 matches as a freshman in 2014 before a shoulder injury forced her to miss the last two seasons. As a freshman, White doled out 131 assists and added 61 digs and 20 kills. In high school. White helped the Carson Cougars to back-to-back regionals championships and runner-up finishes in the state championship matches in 2012 and 2013. She earned All-Region and All-Conference honors and was a North Carolina Scholar-Athlete.

"With the graduation of two senior setters we felt this was a great opportunity to bring in someone who has experience and understands the demands of being a college athlete," said Bambenek. "Michaela was on our radar as a high school player so I'm thrilled to add another talented North Carolina native to our roster.  She is now fully recovered from a shoulder injury that kept her sidelined for both the 2015 and 2016 seasons and she will have two years of eligibility remaining. Michaela will get a head start with spring training which will be valuable time spent with our players and in learning our team systems and Seahawk way."

Marsh was a highly-decorated, four-year standout at North Henderson, earning three straight Henderson Times-News Player-of-the-Year awards. As a senior, she totaled 683 kills and posted seven matches of 30+ kills. For her career, Marsh recorded 2,281 kills. Defensively, Marsh finished with 71 blocks and 276 digs in 2016. She earned All-WNC Athletic Conference honors and was named the WNCAC Player-of-the-Year after such a dominating season. Marsh was also named to the Max Preps All American team as well.

"Caroline will be coming to UNCW as one of the most storied student-athletes to graduate from North Henderson High School. She is a multisport athlete, student body president and serves her community.  Aside from the 2000+ kills Caroline had during her high school career, I am most impressed with her character and leadership. She knows how to play under pressure, with passion, and knows how to motivate her teammates. Caroline is the complete package of what you want in an athlete and representative of UNCW."

Weissmann was a two-year starter at libero for Loveland High School in Loveland, Colo. She averaged 3.3 digs per set as a junior and almost doubled that production as a senior with 6.4 digs per set before an injury curtailed her season. Weissmann was named All-Conference her junior season as well as earning Academic All-State honors.

"Anna was a standout player during our UNCW summer camps, who also happens to be the club teammate of Brynn Montgomery (UNCW early NLI signee).  As a Libero, she has the vocal qualities we like along with aggressive defense and steady serve receive. Anna has been exposed to the highest levels of volleyball during her club and high school career, which will greatly complement our defensive system.  She is a dedicated student and I'm looking forward to the positive impacts she will have on our program."
