WILMINGTON, North Carolina - As the start of the 2015 UNCW softball season draws near, UNCWSports.com wants fans to get a chance to know the players before the season opener on Feb. 13 with a new feature called "Around the Bases."

Senior infielder Kristen Jernigan is the latest player to be featured in "Around the Bases." A native of Benson, N.C., she played in 25 games last year for the Seahawks and made 13 starts. She posted a .217 batting average with 10 hits, including a triple.

UNCWSports.com: Why did you choose to attend UNCW?
KJ: I chose to attend UNCW because they have a really good biology program.
 
UNCWSports.com: Describe a moment when you felt the most Seahawk pride.
KJ: When we beat Coastal Carolina at home last year
 
UNCWSports.com: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
KJ: We have helped with freshman move in, spent time with special needs kids, and had a can food drive.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
KJ: My major is biology. I chose this major because I want to go to graduate school to become a physician's assistant.
 
UNCWSports.com: Describe your dream job:
KJ: A veterinarian
 
UNCWSports.com: If you could play another sport at UNCW, what would it be and why?
KJ: Volleyball because it was my favorite sport in high school.
 
UNCWSports.com: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
KJ: Right before the game when we pray and we do our cheer thing because we are all together, focused, and ready to play.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
KJ: With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)?
KJ: Mexican
 
UNCWSports.com: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
KJ: Savannah, Georgia because it is a really old and pretty town.
 
UNCWSports.com: If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
KJ: Luke Bryan because he is my favorite country music artist.
 
UNCWSports.com: Most addicting television show?
KJ: Pretty Little Liars
 
UNCWSports.com: How will you change the world (or even just one person's world)?
KJ: I try to be nice to everyone because you never know what that person has or is going through and every little bit of kindness helps.
 
UNCWSports.com: Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know …
KJ: I love to go fishing.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is number one on your bucket list and why?
KJ: To visit Hawaii because it looks like such a pretty place and I have wanted to go for as long as I can remember.

KJ: Casey Rowland because I like seeing her teaching tweets.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your biggest pet peeve and why?
KJ: Having to repeat myself several times because it just gets annoying.
