WILMINGTON, North Carolina - As the start of the 2015 UNCW softball season draws near, UNCWSports.com wants fans to get a chance to know the players before the season opener on Feb. 13 with a new feature called "Around the Bases."
In the latest installment, we begin to take a look at the freshmen on the 2015 Seahawk softball team by visiting with freshman utility player
Anna DeVane. A native of Elizabethtown, N.C., DeVane was a three-year letter winner at Harrells Christian Academy who earned all-state notice twice.
UNCWSports.com: Why did you choose to attend UNCW?
AD: Because it was close to home and a beautiful place for me to continue my softball career.

UNCWSports.com: Take us through your pre-game mental preparation routine.
AD: I like to listen to music and really get my mind prepared and focused on the game before me.

UNCWSports.com: Do you belong to any other clubs, groups or organizations?
AD: SAAC

UNCWSports.com: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
AD: We have volunteered at Color Me Rad, Breast Cancer Awareness volleyball tournament, canned food drives in addition to working with special needs children.

UNCWSports.com: What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
AD: I'm undeclared right now, but I'm considering something in the business field.

UNCWSports.com: If you could play another sport at UNCW, what would it be and why?
AD: Soccer because as of my freshman year in high school, I had my mind set to play that in college rather than softball.

UNCWSports.com: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
AD: Singing on the bus on the way to games.

UNCWSports.com: Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
AD: Lauren Moore because she applies herself to her studies very well and has a mindset to do great things.

UNCWSports.com: What animal would best describe you and why?
AD: A sea otter because I'm outgoing and enjoy socializing with others.

UNCWSports.com: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
AD: "Fall down seven times, stand up eight."

UNCWSports.com: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)?
AD: Mexican.

UNCWSports.com: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
AD: The Bahamas because I loved being surrounded by the crystal blue water and all of the beautiful beaches.

AD: Grey's Anatomy.

UNCWSports.com: How will you change the world (or even just one person's world)?
AD: By being a positive role model and continually encouraging people to see the positive side in things throughout life.

AD: I enjoy being outdoors and going hunting.

AD: People being bothered about what others think of them.

AD: Snakes.

AD: Tearing my ACL and meniscus my junior year of high school.
