Around the Bases: Jessica Rappe

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - With less than two months before the UNCW softball team begins its 2015 regular season schedule, UNCWSports.com wants fans to get a chance to know the players before the season opener on Feb. 13 with a new feature called "Around the Bases."

The latest edition of "Around the Bases" takes a look at senior infielder Jessica Rappe. A transfer from Virginia Tech, Rappe is a two-year letter winner for the Seahawks. A starter in all 51 games last year, Rappe hit .250 with three home runs and 16 runs batted in.
UNCWSports.com: Why did you choose to attend UNCW?
JR: I always heard nothing but good things about UNCW. I have a lot of friends from home that go here, I love the beach and I was offered a scholarship to play the sport I love.
 
UNCWSports.com: Describe a moment when you felt the most Seahawk pride.
JR: After my sophomore year when my sport (softball) and other UNCW sports programs were going to get cut, we all came together to get the community on our side and to fight for our sports to continue at UNCW.
 
UNCWSports.com: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
JR: Helping freshman move in their dorms, working the Color Me Rad 5K Run and volunteering at the breast cancer awareness volleyball tournament.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
JR: Biology because I find it very interesting and I wanted to do something challenging. I also hope to continue my education in graduate school.
 
UNCWSports.com: Describe your dream job.
JR: My dream job is to rehabilitate sick or injured wild animals.
 
UNCWSports.com: If you could play another sport at UNCW, what would it be and why?
JR: Volleyball because I feel they have a lot of support and the matches are always high-paced and fun to watch or play.
 
UNCWSports.com: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
JR: At the last practice/game, each senior picks a teammate to carry them off the field from their position for one last time.
 
UNCWSports.com: Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
JR: Lauren Moore because she wants to be a doctor.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)?
JR: Bar food
 
UNCWSports.com: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
JR: Southern California because it has so many beautiful places with a lot to do and perfect weather.
 
UNCWSports.com: If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
JR: Derek Jeter because he is so well-rounded and a legend in sports.
 
UNCWSports.com: Most addicting television show?
JR: Chopped
 
UNCWSports.com: How will you change the world (or even just one person's world)?
JR: I hope to work in orthopedics and help injured athletes .
 
UNCWSports.com: Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know …
JR: I have a pet bunny named Scooter.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is number one on your bucket list and why?
JR: To go out of the country because I have never been outside of the United States.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your biggest pet peeve and why?
JR: When girls' eyebrows do not match their hair color.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is something you are afraid of?
JR: Spiders
 
UNCWSports.com: What is an obstacle you had to overcome in your life?
JR: Transferring schools.
