WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Christian MacDonald pitched into the eighth inning for the fourth time this season and didn’t allow a run as UNCW finished off a series win over Davidson with a 4-1 win on Sunday at Brooks Field.
UNCW improved to 23-10 with the non-conference victory while the Wildcats dropped to 9-21. The Seahawks now own a record of 19-6 at Brooks Field this season.
MacDonald (4-0) stayed undefeated on the season after allowing just four base runners on a pair of walks and two hits over seven and 1/3 innings. At one point he retired 13 straight hitters before a leadoff single in the seventh. He struck out four.
Terence Connelly and Ryan LaGrange had two hits apiece for the Seahawks, who scored all four runs in the third inning, all after there were two out.
DC starter Michael Goldberg (0-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs, but just one earned, in two and 2/3 innings.
Davidson broke up UNCW’s shutout bid with on pinch hitter Ben Arkin’s RBI single in the ninth.

How it happened: UNCW scored all four runs in the third inning. Connelly opened the frame with a single up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Molinaro was walked with two out and Luke Dunlap singled through the rightside for the first run. Corey Dick’s ground ball one batter later was misplayed for the second run. LaGrange and Matt Keeler followed with RBI singles to cap the inning’s scoring.
Inside the numbers: Davidson was 1-for-10 with runners on base … Right-handed batters were just 1-for-18 against MacDonald … Davidson had just one base runner advance around to third in the first eight innings … UNCW allowed just five runs on the weekend, it was the third weekend series it allowed five or fewer runs.
Notes: The Seahawks donned navy and orange jerseys that were auctioned off during the game with the proceeds going to the Miracle League of Wilmington … MacDonald lowered his ERA to 2.91 with his 7.1 innings of shutout baseball … It was the third time this season he’s gone 7.1 innings … LaGrange had his 10 multiple-hit game of the season and it was the fifth for Connelly … Dillon Bass hit .333 (5-for-15) and committed just one error in 30 total chances in the field in place of Michael Bass (ankle) for the week … UNCW fielded .984 for the week with three errors.
