WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior Chris Cooprider and junior Kelly Cameron have been recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association for their sterling play on the tennis courts last week.

Cooprider was selected as the Men’s Singles Player-of-the-Week after sparking the Seahawks to shutout wins over No. 50 Yale and Illinois State. The Denver, Colo, product rallied past Yale’s John Huang, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, at the No. 1 position in a 7-0 victory and then zipped past ISU’s Rolando Torrellas, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles in another 7-0 decision.

Cooprider has compiled a 12-3 singles record this season, helping the Seahawks amass a 71-19 (.798) scorecard in singles action.

The men’s team, ranked No. 69 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, stands 11-4 with 10 shutouts this season.

Cameron, from Hilton Head, S.C., shared Women’s Singles Player-of-the-Week accolades with James Madison’s Katherine Bulling. Cameron recorded a 6-4, 6-1, triumph at No. 3 singles as UNCW blanked 65th-ranked Appalachian State, 7-0. It was Cameron’s 10th singles win in 13 matches this season – tops on the team.

The women’s team is 8-5 this spring and had its match at UNC Greensboro scheduled for Thursday (March 21) postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. Coach Evan Clark’s squad travels to Old Dominion next Thursday (March 28) for its next match.
