TOWSON, Maryland -Junior Katy Buck recorded 16 kills and 13 digs to lead Towson to a 3-1 (24-26, 28-26, 25-15, 25-14) victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Friday at the Towson Center.
The Tigers improved to 24-3 overall and remained undefeated in league play with a perfect 11-0 mark as they won their 17th straight match. The Seahawks moved to 11-16 and 3-8 with the setback.
"I'm very proud of the team effort we displayed tonight against a very good Towson squad," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "We started with a lot of momentum but allowed a few runs in the 3rd and 4th set that we couldn't recover from. Christi and Morgan had a strong offensive showing and both Siera and Mckenzie (Keightley) blocked well and earned some key kills tonight.
Buck powered a potent Towson attack that recorded 63 kills and a .301 hitting percentage. Marta Machos added 14 kills and Dayane Van Ass notched 12. Aubrey Kirven dished out 54 assists and chipped in seven digs. Buck added 13 digs to record a double-double while Paige Sekerak notched 15 digs.
Sophomore Morgan Kline tallied 13 kills and junior Christi Laite added 11 for UNCW, who combined for 46 kills and a .172 hitting percentage for the match. Freshman setter Victoria Phillips notched 23 assists and added 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season while senior Natalie Lahaie dished out 18 assists. Junior Haley Collins notched nine digs while Siera Young recorded a match-high six total blocks.
Both teams close out the regular season on Saturday. UNCW travels to Delaware for a 7 p.m. match while Towson hosts William & Mary in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
