HARRISONBURG,
Virginia - Dale Robins-Bailey knocked home the game-winning goal in the
95th minute to upend UNCW, 4-3, as James Madison advanced to the Colonial
Athletic Association semifinals this weekend in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Seahawks see their season end with a 7-11-1 record while
the third-seeded Dukes improved to 9-6-2 and will play Northeastern on Nov. 9.
JMU edged UNCW earlier this season, 2-1, in double overtime at the UNCW Soccer
Stadium.
The game-winning goal was set up by a Seahawk foul midway
through the overtime period. The free kick looked like it was sailing over the
end line, but Adam Bastidas was able to keep the ball in play and sent a short
cross into the penalty area for Robins-Bailey.
The overtime strike was needed after JMU wasted a 3-1
advantage after sophomore David Sizemore scored twice in the second half for
UNCW. His first goal came in the 57th minute and was assisted by Colin Bonner, but he drew
the Seahawks even, 3-all, in the 87th off a feed by sophomore Jamie Dell.
UNCW freshman striker Colin Bonner netted his sixth goal of
the season as the Seahawks opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Fellow
rookie Nathaniel Goodwin set up the play with a cross from the right side where
Bonner used his 6-foot-4 frame to head home the opening goal.
After that quick goal, the Dukes pressured the Seahawks and
Paul Wyatt knotted the game with his eighth goal of the season, coming in the
23rd minute. Wyatt, the Dukes' leading scorer, was on the finishing end of a
feed from Tom Whitebread.
Josh Grant's seventh goal of the season put the Dukes in
front, 2-1, in the 32nd minute.
Wyatt would strike again in the 50th minute for a 3-1 JMU
lead. Jamal Umar was credited with an assist on the play.
UNCW freshman goalkeeper Sam Williams made a season-high 11
saves while facing 30 Duke shots on the night.
The Seahawks tied a program-record with three goals,
matching their output in a 1999 play-in 3-2 win over George Mason. Sizemore
also matched Russell Bienias' record of two goals in a 2-0 win over VCU in
2005.
Wyatt finished the night with five points after adding an
assist on Grant's goal.
