The Seahawks clinched a CAA tournament berth with a 1-0 win over Towson.
UNCW can finish as high as fourth, which would allow them to host a
tournament game. The first round is set for Nov. 5 and with the semifinals
on the 9th and finals on the 11th.
Coach Aidan Heaney owns a record of 102-104-23 in 11+ seasons with the
Seahawks.He's second to Calvin Lane (129) in most wins by a UNCW coach.
Seahawks had four players sign professional contracts off the 2011 squad.

Delaware Looking To Improve Seeding
UNCW closes out the regular season on Friday at Delaware looking to improve
its seeding in the upcoming CAA Championship tournament. The Seahawks, who
are in the sixth-seed position entering Friday, can finish as high as fourth
with a win and losses by Hofstra and George Mason. While all six berths are
secured, opponents will be determined on Friday with everyone in action except

Thomas Driver's goal just prior to intermission lifted UNCW to a 1-0 win over
visiting Towson in Colonial Athletic Association soccer action on Sunday at
the UNCW Soccer Stadium. The win clinched a berth for the Seahawks in the

After notching just 20 games in 18 games in 2011, the Seahawks have totaled
24 goals through 17 contests. Colin Bonner's five goals lead the Seahawks
while fellow underclassmen Jamie Dell and Nathaniel Goodwin have four goals
apiece and give the Seahawks a force to reckon with in the coming seasons.
Senior Thomas Driver became the 10th Seahawk to score a goal this season with
his winner against Towson.

While the Seahawks sit in seventh place overall, they
are in sixth and occupy final playoff spot entering the weekend. Fourth-place
Old Dominion isn't eligible for the conference tournament in its final season
as a member of the CAA. Just three points seperate Drexel, Towson and James
Madison for the right to host the semifinals and finals. Hofstra, George Mason
and UNCW also are seperated by just three points as they all look to secure
the fourth position and a home game in the first round. Hofstra hosts William
& Mary while George Mason visits Georgia State.
How Fresh Of Ya! Freshmen
Colin Bonner, Nathaniel Goodwin and Hannes Schmitz combined for all three
goals against William & Mary. Of UNCW's 24 goals, freshmen and sophomores
have scored 22. The other goals were scored by Michael Recchia, a game-winner
vs. Hofstra, and Thomas Driver versus Towson.
A Look At Delaware
The Blue Hens are the reigning CAA Champions … Joe Dipre and Mark Garrity
lead the UD offense with three goals each, the Blue Hens have scored just
15 goals on the season while allowing 33 … Jay Lupas has played the
lion’s share of minutes in goal and posted a 1.68 GAA with 66 saves
… In CAA play, UD has forged draws with ODU, league-leader Drexel and
James Madison … In its last appearance, the Blue Hens held a 2-0 lead
at William & Mary before the Tribe rebounded with three unanswered goals
for the win … The Seahawks opened their series with UD with eight straight
wins before dropping the last two, including a double-overtime 2-1 setback
in Wilmington in 2011.

UNCW was picked in a tie for eighth with Hofstra in the 12-team circuit in
a vote of the league's coaches (story).
The CAA sent four teams to the NCAA tournament including conference champion
Delaware, who claimed the league title for the first time. Joining the Blue
Hens in the 48-team tournament were Old Dominion, James Madison and Georgia
State. ODU was picked by the league's coaches to win the conference title
and received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes. James Madison received
one vote and was second followed by defending champion Delaware. William &
Mary and Northeastern rounded out the top five.
