Carolina - The Seahawks are in the middle of a three tournament crunch
this weekend when they compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough,
Tennessee. UNCW will be competing in the tournament for the fourth consecutive
year after finishing eighth, a program best, last fall.
UNCW is coming off its best
outing of the fall after finishing tied for second with Houston at the Fighting
Irish Gridiron Classic in South Bend, Ind. Senior Thomas Bass won the even by
two strokes over a pair golfers including teammate Payne McLeod. Bass held off
several challenges in the final round to win his second career championship.
McLeod, meanwhile, posted his first career top-five finish when he carded a
career-low tying 68 in the final round. He birdied the final two holes to make
a push into second.
Bass was named Colonial
Athletic Association Golfer-of-the-Week for his tremendous outing. He joins
McLeod, who was named CAA Golfer-of-the-Week earlier this season as Seahawks
to earn the award. [ Release ]
Junior Ryan Nagy also tied
his career-low round when he fashioned a three-under-par 68 in the second round.
He finished tied for 28th overall.
The Seahawks will next play
in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-20 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course
in Raleigh, N.C.
