Golfer of the Week
Nominee: Thomas Bass, Senior (Holly Springs, N.C./ Holly Springs)
- Bass captured his second career tournament win this week when
he earned medalist honors at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic, hosted
by Notre Dame. He led the Seahawks to their best finish of the fall as they
tied 38th-ranked Houston for second place, one stroke behind titlist Michigan
State. Bass opened the tournament with an even-par 71 before posting a
three-under 68 in the second round to take the tournament lead. In the final
round, he held off several challenges to win by two strokes. Bass has finished
in the top 10 of all through tournaments this fall.
Notes: Junior
Payne McLeod finished in a tie for second, recording his first career top-5
finish in the process ... He opened the tournament with a four-over-par 75, but
finished with rounds of 70 and 68, the later tying his career low ... Junior Ryan Nagy finished 28th at the Gridiron Classic and tied his career-low round of 68
in the second round ... McLeod moved to within 0.08 of tying former UNCW standout
Josh Brock for the all-time program stroke average ... Bass earned wins over a
pair of top-20 ranked individuals with his victory. ... UNCW totaled 38 birdies
and pared 166 holes in the tournament.

tournament field includes Army, Coastal Carolina,
host East Tennessee, Furman, Memphis, Missouri, Penn State, Pepperdine,
Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
