SOUTH BEND, Indiana - UNCW shot a tournament-low, four-under-par 280 in the second round to move into second-place overall at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic on Monday at the Warren Golf Club. Senior Thomas Bass moved to the top of the leaderboard with a three-under-par score of 68.
Michigan State (287-282=569) enters the final round on Tuesday with a seven-stroke lead over the Seahawks (296-280=576) and an eight-stroke lead on third-place San Francisco (292-285=577).
Bass (71-68=139) was one of five golfers to card a 68 in the second round as he climbed from a tie for sixth into first place. He holds a two-stroke advantage over Michigan's Noori Hyun (73-68=141) and Matthew Moseley (70-71=141) of Michigan State.
While Bass made a move of his own, juniors Payne McLeod (75-70=145) and Ryan Nagy (77-68=145) made impressive jumps on Monday. Both moved into a tie for 13th. Nagy tied his career-low round with the three-under 68.
The final round tees off at 8:30 a.m. with the Seahawks teeing off at 10 a.m. and are paired with Michigan State and San Francisco.
