WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - UNCW freshman striker Colin Bonner was named Colonial Athletic
Association Rookie-of-the-Week on Monday, giving the Seahawks back-to-back
weekly rookie honors after Nathaniel Goodwin received the nod on Oct. 1.
Bonner moved into a tie for the team lead with three goals when
he scored what would prove to the game-winning goal in the Seahawks 3-0 win at
William & Mary last Wednesday. Bonner's goal came in the 48th minute as the
Seahawks scored three times in the second half to break a scoreless deadlock
after 45 minutes.
It was the first game-winner for the powerful strike from Fulton,
Md. His other goals were game-tying efforts against Binghamton.
In the W&M game, all three goals were scored by freshmen
as Goodwin and Hannes Schmitz added goals as the Seahawks pulled away from the
Tribe.
The Seahawks open a vital three-game homestand on Wednesday
with James Madison followed by a Saturday showdown with nationally-ranked Old
Dominion. The homestand concludes on Oct. 17 against Georgia State. All three
matches are 7 p.m. starts.
All three opponents played in the NCAA tournament last fall
and the Seahawks faced all three, in succession, on the road in 2011 and
dropped each match by one goal.
