DAUFUSKIE ISLAND,
South Carolina - Payne McLeod carded a team-low 74 as UNCW moved into
seventh place with a solid second round on Monday at the Rees Jones
Invitational at the Haig Point Club in Daufuskie Island, S.C.
The Seahawks opened the tournament with a 309, but shaved
six strokes off that total in the second round and stand seventh, three shots
behind Kennesaw State.
Ryan Nagy paced the Seahawks with a round of 74 in the first
round.
"We made some mistakes today," said UNCW Head Coach Matt
Clark. "But we finished strong and need to look to build upon that tomorrow. We
have a chance to move up the leaderboard."
Nationally-ranked Liberty (284-290=574) holds a staggering
17-stroke lead entering the final round on Tuesday. Host South Carolina (295-296=591)
is second by three strokes over Winthrop (293-301=594).
The Flames built their lead by placing four golfers in the
top six, including Ian McConnell (68-74=142) and Niklas Lindstrom (73-70=143),
who are first and second, respectively.
