WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Michael Recchia's first career goal with three seconds remaining in regulation lifted UNCW past Hofstra, 3-2, in Colonial Athletic Association soccer action Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The win pushed UNCW's record to 4-5-1 overall and evened the Seahawks conference mark at 1-1. The Pride, meanwhile, had brief two-game winning streak halted with the setback and dropped to 6-3-1 and 0-2 in the league.

On the winning goal, sophomore Jamie Dell took possession on the right flank for UNCW and beat his defender to the end line. He cut back and found Recchia unmarked seven yards out. Recchia's first shot was turned aside by HU goalkeeper Adam Janowski, but Recchia jumped on the rebound and knocked home the difference maker.

It was UNCW's second game decided in the waning seconds this season after falling to Binghamton, 3-2, with one second remaining earlier this season at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic.

The Seahawks opened the scoring in the 16th minute when sophomore defender Jacob VanCompernolle headed home his second goal of the season off a long serve by junior Michael Parrish. Janowski came off his line looking to catch the ball, but VanCompernolle was able to redirect the ball inside the far post for the early lead.

Hofstra was able to drawn even in the 69th minute on Chris Griebsch's fourth goal of the season. A UNCW defender pulled down a Pride attackedrsetting up a free kick from 23 yards out on the right side. Griebsch tucked his free kick just under the crossbar for the tying goal.

Freshman Nathaniel Goodwin restored UNCW's lead at 2-1 with his second goal of the season. Senior Etienne Boulanger sent a cross from the right sideline into the penalty area where Goodwin volleyed home the go-ahead goal at the 82:03 mark.

The Seahawks would be victimized again on a set piece by the Pride in the 87th minute. Shaun Foster was able to redirect a free kick from the left side by Joseph Holland past UNCW goalkeeper Sam Williams. It was Foster's second goal of the season.

UNCW owned an 18-9 advantage in shots and both teams registered four corner kicks apiece.

Janowski finished with four saves while Williams made two stops.

Next up for the Seahawks will be a road test at William & Mary on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
