Carolina - The UNCW women's soccer team opens Colonial Athletic Association
play this weekend with contests against Hofstra and Northeastern.
The Seahawks begin league play Thursday with a 7 p.m. match
against the Pride at the UNCW Soccer Stadium before traveling to Boston Sunday
for a 1 p.m. matinee with the Huskies .

Notes UNCW
enters conference play with a 5-3-1 overall mark after their winning streak,
which had been extended to five games with a 1-0 victory at Coastal Carolina on
Sept. 13, was snapped in a 2-1 loss to rival East Carolina Sept. 16 at the UNCW
Soccer Stadium ... The five-game winning streak was the longest for the program
since a five-game stretch in 2009 that saw UNCW win its final three games of
the regular season and capture the program's first CAA Tournament title ... The
Seahawks saw another significant streak come to an end against the Pirates as
they allowed their first goal in 330:18 of game action with ECU's opening tally
at the 38:56 mark of the first half ... UNCW had shutout each of its previous three
opponents prior to the matchup with the Pirates, marking the first time since
the 2008 campaign that the Seahawks had recorded three straight shutouts ... Senior
Stephanie Rose tallied a goal and an assist last week to raise her team-leading
point total to 14 (4 G, 6 A) ... She currently leads the CAA and ranks among the
top 10 players in the nation (8th) in assists and is second among all league
players in scoring, just two points off the pace of William and Mary's Mallory
Schaefer ... Freshman Maddie McCormick scored her first collegiate goal with the
game-winning strike against the Chanticleers ... She became the fifth different
player to score a game-winning for the Seahawks his season ... Senior keeper
Caitlin Hunter made three stops against the Chanticleers to record her third
shutout of the season and the 10th clean sheet of her career ... Hunter remains the
league leader in total saves (55) and save percentage (.887) ... She also ranks
second in the league in goals against average (0.77).
Scouting Hofstra Hofstra brings a 4-4-0 overall record into its league opener following a
2-1 overtime victory against state foe Albany on Sept. 14 ... Sophomore Sam
Scolarici leads the team in scoring with 10 points on five goals while freshman
Leah Galton is just off Scolarici's pace with eight points (3 G, 2 A) ... Junior Emily
Morphitis has started all eight games in goal for the Pride and has fashioned a
1.59 goals against average and a .639 save percentage ... She has two shutouts to
her credit this season ... Head Coach Simon Riddiough is in his seventh season
with the program ... He has led the Pride to
an 81-41-8 record during his time with the Pride, including a school-record 19
victories during the 2010 season.
Series Notes Versus
Hofstra UNCW trails in the all-time series with Hofstra by a 3-8-1 margin ... The
Pride have held the edge in the series of late, winning five of the last six meeting
between the two programs, including each of the last two matchups ... The Pride
won last season's contest, 2-0, at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Oct. 23 ... UNCW is
1-4-1 at home against Hofstra, with its lone home victory coming in a 1-0 overtime
victory on Oct. 25, 2002 ... Nine of the previous 12 meetings between the two
sides have been decided by way of shutout.
Scouting Northeastern Northeastern enters league play with a 2-6 record after closing out
non-conference play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Albany on Sept. 16 ... The
Huskies will face Georgia State in their league opener on Friday before
entertaining the Seahawks on Sunday ... Senior Greta Samuelsdottier leads the Huskies
lineup in scoring with six points (2 G, 2 A) as the Huskies have found the net
just seven times in their first eight games ... Sophomore Paige Burnett has started
every game in goal for the Huskies this season and has turned in a .719 save
percentage and a 1.98 goals against average ... She picked up her first shutout
of the season in the Huskies' 2-0 victory over the Great Danes ... Tracey Leone
is in her third season as head coach of the Huskies ... She has led the program
to a 20-20-3 overall mark in that span.

Northeastern Sunday's contest marks the ninth meeting between UNCW and Northeastern ...
The two programs have split their previous eight meetings ... UNCW won last
season's matchup, 3-0, at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Oct. 21 ... The Seahawks are
1-2 in their three previous visits to Beantown to play the Huskies ... UNCW's
lone road victory came in a 2-1 triumph at Parsons Field on Oct. 19, 2008.
Seahawks Ranked Third In NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Poll
UNCW finds itself ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America's (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll for the fifth straight week, maintaining
its third place ranking on the listing that features teams from the CAA,
Atlantic 10, Ivy and Patriot leagues ... UNCW has been ranked in all five polls
this season ... The Seahawks are one of three CAA squads ranked in the
NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Poll as they are joined by conference foes William
& Mary (1st) and Drexel (6th).
Seahawks Record Tie Against No. 3 Wake Forest UNCW
posted its first win or tie against a top 10 opponent when it played to a 0-0
draw against No. 3 Wake Forest at the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational in
Blacksburg, Va. on Aug. 19 ... The draw also marked the Seahawks first result
against an opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference as they had compiled a
0-11-0 mark versus the league prior to the tie with the Demon Deacons.
Rose Named To Preseason CAA Squad UNCW

Rose was named to the Preseason All-CAA Women's Soccer Team on Aug. 15 ... Rose,
a native of Jacksonville, N.C., earned Third-Team All-CAA accolades last season
after leading the Seahawks in scoring with 10 points on a team-high five goals.
Hunter Honored For Solid Opening Weekend
Senior keeper Caitlin
Hunter was recognized by various outlets for her play in the Hilton Garden
Inn Hokie Invitational in mid-August ... On Aug. 20, Hunter was named the
Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Co-Player-of-the-Week and was
selected as the CAA Player-of-the-Week by the online publication College Sports Madness ...
Hunter was also selected as the keeper for the Soccer America Women's
Team-of-the-Week on Aug. 22 ... Hunter allowed just one goal in 211:37 in
guiding the Seahawks to a 0-1-1 result against two ranked opponents at the
Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational ... The Ashburn, Va., product made six
saves in a 1-0 double-overtime loss to host No. 22 Virginia Tech in the season
opener on Aug. 17 before posting 10 saves in a 0-0 draw against No. 3 Wake
Forest on Aug. 19 to record her eighth career shutout.

earning Primetime Player accolades from the online publication for the week of
Sept. 3-9 ... Currie was recognized after earning MVP honors in the UNCW
Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational, tallying five points on two goals
and an assist to lead the Seahawks to the tournament title with shutout
victories over Campbell and Troy ... She opened the weekend with a goal in the
Seahawks 3-0 victory over the Camels and capped the event with a goal and an
assist in UNCW's 4-0 blanking of the Trojans.

Stephanie Rose is currently fourth in program history with 24
goals ... With her two goals against Campbell on Sept. 7, Rose moved past
Michelle Doherty (1998-2000) into sole possession of fourth place on the
all-time list ... Rose also sits in fourth place on the program's career
scoring chart with 62 career points (24 G, 14 A) ... Rose leaped past three
former UNCW standouts -Doherty, Jenny Cauble (2004-07) and Katy Shearon
(1995-98) - into fourth place on the all-time list with her five-point evening
against the Camels ... With her league-leading six assists this season, Rose is
making her way up the single-season charts as well as she is part of a six-way tie
for seventh place on the program's single-season assists chart ... Senior keeper Caitlin
Hunter finds herself ranked on four of the programs career charts, entering
the weekend in second place in wins (20), third in saves (278), third in save
percentage (.803) and fifth in goals against average (1.34) ... Her victory
against Charlotte on Aug. 31 moved Hunter past Carla Linebarger (1996-99) into
sole possession of second place on the squad's all-time wins chart.

Athletic Association Conference
play gets underway this week as all 11 teams will take to the field against
league competition for the first time this season... Drexel remains atop the
league standings with a 6-1-1 overall record as it begins conference play
undefeated in its last seven outings (6-0-1) ... William & Mary, winners of
each of its last six contests, is in second with a 6-2-1 mark while UNCW
(5-3-1) and Hofstra (4-4) round out the top four ... William & Mary's Mallory
Schaefer, who leads the league in scoring with 16 points (7 G, 2 A), was named
CAA Player-of-the-Week on Monday ... Delaware's Emily Market was tabbed as the
League's Rookie-of-the-Week.
