WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - Three Seahawks were recognized for their standout summers by
Perfectgame.org, with all three being named among the top prospects in their
respective leagues.
Red-shirt junior Blaze Tart was ranked 20th in the Coastal
Plain League prospect list after posting a 2.08 earned run average in 39
innings pitched. Tart missed the entire 2012 season for UNCW recovering from
arm surgery. With the Wilmington Sharks, Tart held opponents to a miniscule
.187 batting average and struck out 31 batters.
In the Cape Cod League, sophomore Jordan Ramsey (82nd) finished
his summer with the Cotuit Kettleers with a 3-0 record in 12 appearances.
Ramsey added a save and walked just seven in 34 1/3 innings. He fanned 23 and
finished with a 3.93 ERA in an offensive summer in the CCL.
Rounding out UNCW's prospect mentions was senior infielder
Michael Bass (honorable mention), a second-team All-Colonial selection in 2012.
Bass played for the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken League and hit .303,
including an impressive .350 in the playoffs over five games. His biggest gain
of the summer was in his plate discipline, drawing 29 walks and striking out
just 15 times. Bass belted 14 doubles and two homers while swiping 18 bases.
