Notes UNCW
opened the 2012 season at home last weekend with a 2-1 finish in the Courtyard
Wilmington Beach Bash ... The Seahawks opened the tournament with sweeps of High
Point and Delaware State, but fell to tournament champion LIU Brooklyn, 3-1, in
the tournament finale ... Sophomore Morgan Kline and junior Christi Laite paced
the Seahawks attack, averaging 3.71 and
3.50 kills per set, respectively ... Sophomore McKenzie Keightley was the squad's
most effective attacker, posting a team-best .480 hitting percentage as she
posting 16 kills with one just one error in 25 total attempts ... Senior Natalie
LaHaie and freshman Victoria Phillips split setting duties during the Beach
Bash ... LaHaie averaged a team-high 7.75 assists per frame while Phillips
fashioned a 6.17 assists per set clip ... Defensively, junior Haley Collins
notched a team-best 3.71 digs per frame and freshman Lindsay Hartmann 2.78
bumps per set in her first collegiate tournament ... Freshman Meredith Peacock
had a strong opening weekend at the net, averaging a team-best 1.17 blocks per
set in her collegiate debut ... Hartmann and Keightley were both named to the
All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the tournament.
Scouting Campbell Campbell opened the 2012 season with a 2-1 result at the East Carolina
Classic ... The Camels defeated the host Pirates in five sets in their season
opener and closed out the tournament with a sweep of Bethune Cookman, but
suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Charlotte in their second match to miss
out on an opportunity to claim the tournament title ... Sophomore Jessica
Groen, named to the All-Tournament Team at the East Carolina Classic, averaged
2.91 kills per set to pace the Camels attack during the opening weekend ... Fellow
All-Tournament Team selection junior Lindsay Coats was the team's most
efficient hitter at the event, turning in a .340 attack percentage in 53 total
attempts ... Coats has also played a key role in the team's defensive efforts,
averaging 1.55 blocks per set ... Freshman libero Lauren Bewick led the team in
digs per set (3.18).
Series Notes Tuesday's contest marks the 43rd meeting between the two rivals in a series
that dates back to the 1986 season ... The two programs have met on the court in
all but three seasons (1989, 2002, 2009) since the start of the series ... The
Seahawks hold a 28-14 advantage in previous meetings and have enjoyed the edge
of late, winning six of the last eight matchups ... The Camels did snap the
Seahawks three-match winning streak in their most recent meeting, a 3-0 triumph
in Buies Creek last September ... UNCW holds a 14-5 record in home matches
against the Camels and has won each of the last four meetings between the two
programs at Hanover Hall ... The Seahawks last loss at home to the Camels came in
a 3-0 setback on Nov. 6, 2000.
Bendig Returns To
Hanover Hall Seahawk fans will see a familiar face on the Campbell sideline Tuesday as
former UNCW setter Kelsey Bendig is in her first season as a graduate assistant
with the Camels program ... Bendig spent four seasons in the Port City (2008-11)
and took part in 109 matches during her career, averaging 6.10 assists, 1.71
digs and 0.24 blocks per set ... She finished her career fourth on the program's
all-time assists chart (2,146) and ninth in assists per set.
Seahawks Hit On All
Cylinders Against Hornets UNCW turned in one of its best hitting performances in recent memory in its
3-0 victory against Delaware State last Saturday at the Courtyard Wilmington
Beach Bash, combining to record 47 kills and just 15 errors in 86 total
attempts for a .372 attack percentage in the three-match sweep ... The
performance represented the best single-match hitting percentage for a UNCW
lineup since Sept. 12, 2003, when UNCW finished with 53 kills and only 15
attack errors in 98 total attempts for a .388 attack clip in a 3-0 win over
Grambling State.

Setter Natalie LaHaie begins the second week of the season with 1,090 assists,
good for 12th place on the program's all-time list ... She enters the week
needing just 54 assists to match former setter Lacey White (2003-04) for 10th
place ... Junior libero Haley Collins enters her junior campaign with 860
career digs, good for 12th place on the program's career chart ... Collins
opens the week just 73 digs shy of matching Heather Kimble (1987-90) for 10th
place.
Laite
Named To CAA Preseason Squad UNCW
junior right side hitter Christi Laite was named to the Preseason All-CAA
Volleyball Team on Aug. 21 ... A Second-Team All-CAA and NCCSIA All-State Team
selection in 2011, Laite played in 29 matches for the Seahawks last season and
ranked sixth in the league in kills per set (3.28) while pacing the squad in
attack percentage (.233) ... She also pitched 83 total blocks and 27 service
aces to finish the season fifth in the league in points per frame (3.92) ...
Defensively, the Severna Park, Md., product averaged 1.42 digs per set as she
recorded three double-doubles during her sophomore campaign.
Around The Colonial Athletic Association The
Colonial Athletic Association enjoyed a solid opening weekend with all nine
teams combining to post an overall record of 16-11 ... Three teams - Hofstra,
Northeastern and Towson - all finished the opening weekend with undefeated records
... Both Hofstra and Towson opened the season with four victories apiece while Northeastern
picked up three wins in its first weekend of competition... Hofstra's Kelsie Wills
(Offensive), Northeastern's Natalia Skiba (Defensive) and James Madison's Meghan
Nisk (Rookie) were the recipients of the league's inaugural weekly awards on
Monday.

begins a 10-match road swing this weekend as it takes part in the Deacon
Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. ... The Seahawks begin the two-day event
Friday with a 7 p.m. match against host Wake Forest and conclude the event
