WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - Led by senior Bob Vanderham in the 800 meters, UNCW qualified FOUR
athletes for the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., on
May 24-26, on the campus of North Florida.
Vanderham qualified for the preliminary round with a time of
1:48.68 in the 800 at the Pepsi Florida Relays in early April. For Vanderham,
this will be his second appearance in the preliminary round after competing
last spring in Bloomington, Ind.
Senior Jordan Daywalt is the only member of the women's team
to qualify for the preliminary round, using a mark of 3.96 meters in the Pole
Vault. That mark, which ranked 26th in the east region, was a school record and
accomplished at the Charlotte Invitational in April. This will be Daywalt's
first NCAA appearance, but it'll be the third UNCW female to qualify for the
regionals in the pole vault joining Annie Powell (2011) and Ashley Wildehaber (2003).
Junior David Lindsay used a time of 14.19 to reach the preliminary
round. Lindsay won the CAA 110 Hurdle title with that qualifying time. It will
be his second straight preliminary round appearance.
Rounding out the qualifying Seahawks is sophomore Aerial Chatman who will compete in both the men's Long Jump and Triple Jump. Chatman
is ranked 25th in the east in the Long Jump (7.55m) and 34th in the Triple Jump
(15.29m). Chatman will be making his second regional appearance after competing
in Bloomington as a freshman in the Triple Jump last spring.
