COLUMBUS, Ohio - The UNCW women's golf team posted a team-total 324 in the final round and finished in 22nd place as the 2012 NCAA Central Regional came to a close Saturday on the Scarlet Course of the Ohio State Golf Club.

The Seahawks ended the 54-hole event with a 323-322-324=969 total, one shot ahead of Horizon League champion Butler, who finished at 321-334-315=970.

"We are disappointed that we were not able to score and place higher at this NCAA Regional," said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. "The players gave it their best effort today, but the course really challenged the team throughout the week and we just couldn't get any momentum going. I appreciate the hard work of my players throughout the year. We just need to continue improving our games so we can be better prepared for the difficulty of these championship courses."

No. 3 Southern California capped its wire-to-wire victory with a two-under-par total of 286 on Saturday to finish with a tournament scorecard of 298-290-286=874, 25 strokes ahead of No. 10 Vanderbilt, who claimed second place with a 308-292-299=899 result. No. 33 Purdue took third with a 301-307-294=902 total and No. 14 Tennessee claimed fourth at 306-308-290=904.

For UNCW, sophomore Laverry Kumar shot a final-round 79 to finish the event with a 80-76-79=235 scorecard and earn a share of 57th place. Seniors Sofia Hagsund and Alei Mitchell wrapped up their collegiate careers with an 81 and 83, respectively as Hagsund finished part of a tie for 88th with a 79-81-81=240 tournament total while Mitchell took 123rd at 88-86-85=259. Sophomores Lori Beth Adams (82-82-81=245/T-104th) and Jeanne Metivier (83-83-83=249/T-113th) completed UNCW's entry.

"Sofia's been an outstanding performer for us the last three years and we'll miss her experience and leadership in the future," said Ho. "Alei has worked really hard and has been a wonderful ambassador for our program. We will miss them both."

USC's Lisa McCloskey (73-68-72=213) and Florida State's Maria Salinas (71-72-70=213) shared individual medalist honors as both players finished the tournament at three-under-par. Vanderbilt's Marina Alex claimed third with a one-under-par result of 70-73-72=215.
