WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The No. 35 ranked UNCW men's tennis team opened the month of April with its 13th victory of the season after taking down Old Dominion, 6-1, in a Colonial Athletic Association match Sunday at the UNCW Tennis Complex.

The Seahawks extended their winning streak to four matches and improved to 13-4 overall and 1-0 in the CAA. The Monarchs are 10-9 and 2-3 this spring.

UNCW won the first two matches off the court to capture the doubles point and take control early against the Monarchs. The No. 1 team of Chris Cooprider and Kosta Blank controlled Fahoum Fahoum and Can Cetinel, 8-3, for their seventh straight doubles triumph and the No. 3 unit of Pedro Mol and Rafael Aita then clinched the point by trimming Krzysztof Muzalewski and Alfredo Rodriguez, 8-5.

"ODU came out very strong in doubles and was extremely fired up," said UNCW Head Coach Mait DuBois. "I was pleased how we responded and stayed even through the doubles point, taking two of the three matches."

The Seahawks then won five of the six singles duels for the easy win. Aita, ranked 88th nationally by the ITA, increased the score to 2-0 by thumping Muzalewski, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Freshman Kaue Pereira then beat Centinel, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 5 singles for a 3-0 advantage and Blank clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1, decision over ODU's Wesley Barrett.

In other singles matches, Cooprider beat Carlos Lopez Villa in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 2 position and Mol held on for a 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 triumph over Albert Ochagavia.

ODU registered its lone win when Rodriguez defeated Sam Williams, 7-6 (1), 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) in a marathon match at No. 6 singles.

DuBois said, "Kaue really had a good match for us today. His opponent forced him to show another side of his game that he has been developing. I know he will take a lot of confidence from today's win. The quality of tennis at No. 2 singles was also extremely high. Chris really had to show the true variety of his game to get by Lopez Villa."

The Seahawks have just three matches remaining in the regular season, beginning with a 1 p.m. next Saturday against Troy in Atlanta.
