BRADENTON, Florida
- Payne McLeod stayed perfect with his fourth win as UNCW topped Washington
State, 3-1-1, on Tuesday in the final match of the Callaway Collegiate Match
Play Championships at the Concessions Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
With the victory, the Seahawks finished the tournament with
a 2-2 mark and in 13th place overall.
McLeod grabbed a one-hole lead after a birdie in hole number
10 and fended off several challenges by Trent Sanders over the final three
holes with par scores to earn the win.
Stefan Brewer, who closed out his tournament appearance
winning his final three matches, was the first Seahawk to post a win as the
topped WSU's Michael Anderson, 6&5. He won four of the first five holes and
after halving two holes, he pushed his lead to six holes for good on the ninth
hole with a par.
Patrick Sawrey pulled away late on hole number 14 to take
his first lead of a match against Kent Hagen. In a match that was all square on
eight different occasions, Sawrey's par edged Hagen's bogey. Sawrey did so the
same on the following hole to build a two-hole advantage.
The Seahawks return to stroke play when they visit Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, for the LSU National Invitational on March 30 - April 1.
