WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - UNCW wraps up the season this weekend as the men look to defend
their Colonial Athletic Association championship and the women look to get back
to the winners platform at the conference championships beginning Wednesday at
the McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Virginia.
The Seahawks have won the last 10 consecutive titles on the
men's side, while the women last won in 2006 and own three championship titles.
A pair of newcomers will head up the men's charge for an
11th title. Freshman Valtteri Halonen owns the league's top times in the 100
and 200 Backstroke and is third in the 100 Fly. C.J. Fiala, another
talented freshman for UNCW, ranks among the CAA's top five times in both the 50
Free and the 100 Breast.
UNCW will also count on junior sprinter Michael Williams,
who ranks second in the 100 Free and ninth in the 50. Williams also swims a leg
of the Seahawks top-ranked 200 Freestyle Relay team.
Senior Anna Munger will take one last swing at a CAA championship
and has had a tremendous year entering the final weekend. Munger ranks in the
CAA top-3 in the 50-Free (1st), 100 Fly (2nd) and 100 Free (3rd).
Joining Munger in UNCW's push in the women's meet is junior
Carly Tanner, who is second in the 50 Free and ranks in the top-10 in three
other events.
The Seahawks will also look to get boosts from their relays
as they own the top times in the men and women's 200 Free and 200 Medley
relays.
The championships are being hosted by George Mason for the
13th consecutive year and live results will be available at UNCWsports.com.
