FAIRFAX, Virginia - UNCW
again opened the finals session with a sweep of a relay and Stephen Conrad and
Valtteri Halonen both won individual events to lead the Seahawks on Friday at
the Patriot Invitational at the McKay Natatorium.
The Seahawk women maintained their second-place
standing while the men also remained in third. UMBC leads both meets.
UNCW won the 200 Medley Relays to open the night
session. The women's relay team of Alden Dyer, Carly Tanner, Anna Munger and
Mattie Riley posted a time of 1:43.89. The men's relay of Halonen, Ray McGorry,
Conrad and Joe Gallene clocked in with a winning time of 1:31.87.
Conrad completed a stellar day winning the 100
Butterfly with a meet record time of 49.25 seconds. He had set the record
earlier in the day during the preliminaries.
Halonen, meanwhile, added a win in the 100
Backstroke, finishing in a time of 50.19 seconds. Halonen holds the Colonial
Athletic Association's top times this season in both the 100 and 200
Backstrokes.
Meg Gildea added her second third-place finish of
the meet, this coming in the 1-meter board with 217.20 points.
The meet concludes on Saturday with the
preliminaries beginning at 10 and the finals session starting at 6 p.m.
