WILMINGTON, N.C. -
Vincent Mediate's blast from the top of the penalty area in the 103rd minute
lifted Delaware to a 2-1 win over host UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association
men's soccer action Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Hens (11-3-2, 6-3-1 CAA) remained in a tie for
third in the league with the win while the Seahawks dropped to 3-12-1 overall
and 1-8-1 in the league.
On the game-winning goal, Evans Frimpong started the play on
the rightside and broke down field, eluding several UNCW defenders. He sent a
short pass to Kyle Bruno, who found a streaking Mediate coming down the middle.
The Seahawks took the early lead on Jack Ward's third goal
of the season. A Seahawk was hauled down in the penalty area at the 28:52 mark
leading to a penalty kick which Ward tucked away inside the left post.
UNCW carried that lead into the 54th minute when a Seahawk
defender was whistled for a handball in the penalty area. John Dineen drew the
Blue Hens even when he cashed in on the penalty kick.
Despite both teams combing for 25 shots, 14 by UD, both keepers
were called upon to make just one save each.
