WILMINGTON, North Carolina
-The UNCW women's soccer team opened a four-game homestand Friday with a 3-0
setback to visiting George Mason in Colonial Athletic Association women's
soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Patriots improved to 6-4-2 overall and 3-2-2 in CAA play
with the three-goal victory. The Seahawks moved to 2-12 and 0-6. Both teams
return to action Sunday with league matinees. UNCW hosts Towson at 2 p.m. while
Mason is at Georgia State for a Noon kickoff.
Sophomore Nicole Clark opened the scoring at the 9:09 mark
as she headed home a cross from junior Tiana Kallenberger for her third goal of
Junior Crissy Parker doubled the Patriots advantage in the
41st minute when she fired a shot from the right side that UNCW junior keeper
Caitlin Hunter was able to partially deflect, but was unable to keep from finding
its way across the goal line. Kellenberger was credited with her second assist
of the evening on the play.
Senior Zoe Doherty capped off the scoring in the final minute,
taking a through ball from freshman Liz Hodges and placing a shot into the
upper left-hand corner of the net for her fifth strike of the campaign.
UNCW's best opportunity to get on the board came in the 75th
minute, when freshman Katie O'Donnell's header from six yards out found the
Mason held an 8-7 shot advantage in the contest and
enjoyed an 8-3 edge in corner kicks taken. Sophomore Lyndse Hokanson made one save
for Mason as she recorded her third shutout of the season. Hunter made two
stops between the pipes for the Seahawks.
