WILMINGTON, N.C. Freshman Cody Stanley went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as UNC Wilmington topped visiting Wake Forest, 5-1, in college baseball action on Tuesday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks raised their record to 22-4 with their 21st consecutive win, tops in the nation. The Demon Deacons, meanwhile, saw their record slide to 12-14 with their second consecutive loss and seventh in their last eight games.

Sophomore reliever Kyle Lewis (1-0) earned his first win of the season for UNCW, with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Lewis fanned a season-high three batters.

Sophomore starter Phil Negus (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing four runs on six hits and two walks in three innings.

Senior Jason Appel, who extended his hitting streak to a career-long 14 games, gave the Seahawks a lift in the first inning with a RBI single to left and senior Nate Hall followed two batters later with a double to right center to knock in Appel to make it 2-0 UNCW.

Freshman Alex Hill pushed it to 3-0 in the second inning for the Seahawks with a sacrifice fly to center that scored senior Jes Snyder who doubled to lead off the inning.

WFU answered with a run in the top of the third when senior Willie Fox, who finished 2-for-4 on the night, hit his second homer of the season.

Stanley gave UNCW a 4-1 lead with a 2-out RBI single through the box in the third and drove in his second run of the game in the eighth with a hit-and-run doubled inside the first base bag that scored freshman pinch runner Tyler Stott from first base. UNCW loaded the bases against freshman reliever Ryan McGrath, but McGrath fanned Hill and Hargrave before making way for sophomore reliever Alex Wiesner, who closed out the inning and kept the Demon Deacons within striking distance at 5-1.

After a leadoff walk by WFU's Tyler Smith, Seahawk freshman Stephen Harrold entered the game and retired the next three batters in order to end it.

The Seahawks return to Colonial Athletic Association play on Apr. 4, with a 2 p.m. start at Northeastern.
