Q: Tell us a little more about yourself.
I am from Fayetteville, NC and graduated from Terry Sanford High School in 2004. The Wilmington area has been my home since August of 2004 when I enrolled at UNCW as a Freshman. In May of 2011 my wife Lindsay Spiers Harkey who is also a graduate of UNCW and I were married at Wrightsville Beach. I currently work for James E. Moore Insurance Agency where I specialize at developing and managing insurance policies specific to Veterinary practices.
Q: How did you get interested in UNCW Athletics and the Seahawk Club?
Growing up watching and playing sports daily, it was great to come to a University that had a rich tradition of winning! I became involved with the Seahawk Club soon following graduation. After receiving and actually READING a brochure that was mailed to me, I learned that although we were winning multiple conference titles every year, our Athletic Department was the LOWEST funded in the CAA.
Q: What makes the Seahawk Club and Seahawk Athletics special?
UNCW has a growing reputation of being one of the most well respected Universities not only in our state but across the country. Typically with any well recognized University there is a very strong athletic department that plays a major roll in the growth and prosperity of the academic arm for the institution. UNCW is no different! Without the support of the Seahawk Club, our University would not be where it is today.
Q: What would you say to a young alumnus who is thinking about joining the Seahawk Club?
Joining the Seahawk club has been extremely rewarding for Lindsay and I. Our donation, although it is not very much, is very much appreciated and needed. Giving at any level helps our University continue to grow and prosper.
Q: What is your most memorable UNCW moment?
Getting out of class and driving down Wrightsville Ave to go to the beach!
Q: What excites you the most about the future of UNCW Athletics?
Growing up a UNC fan, it is great to see Buzz Peterson and childhood hero of mine Dante Calabria on the bench. Our basketball team has been very impressive despite being one of the youngest in the country. The next few years should be very exciting!
