What do you love about your major? Why did you choose it?

My major is education.  What I love most about it is that it is so interactive with students and children at the schools. Last year as a freshman, I was already able to participate in field experience to help me prepare for the classroom. I chose this major because throughout my education I have had many teachers that have really guided me and changed my life for the better. I want to be that teacher to other students. I want to be the teacher that makes learning fun and will be there for her students.

How has being a student athlete enhanced your academics?  Your role as a leader?

Being a student athlete has taught me the discipline needed to be successful in academics. To be successful as an athlete, I need to work hard and put in extra time to get better. This mirrors over to academics. To do well academically, I have to work hard and study to get good grades. If I wasn’t an athlete I probably wouldn’t have learned these tools to help me in school.

What have you learned thus far in college, academically or athletically, that has prepared you for life after college?

I have learned in both academic and athletic settings that to be successful that I cannot be lazy. When I was younger it was easier to get away with not studying, or not hitting that extra bucket of softballs before game day. In college, I have seen that I cannot do that anymore. I have to put forth the extra effort to get what I want in return. This lesson will be very useful because you can’t go anywhere in life without working hard.

What do you desire to do after graduation?

After I graduate at UNCW, I want to go get my Masters in Education. After that I would like to find a teaching job at a high school that allows me to coach..

What about you would be important for a scholarship donor to know that would encourage him/her to give again?

As an out of state student, without my scholarship, I would not have been able to come to UNCW and be a part of this great institution or have the  athletic opportunity that I have at UNCW.
