The prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports related injuries to UNC Wilmington athletes are preformed in the George Diab Sports Medicine Center, a modern athletic training facility in Trask Coliseum.
The Diab Center, named for longtime friends and supporters George and Kitty Diab, opened in the spring of 1993. It features the latest in acoustical, electrical, and hydrotherapy treatment modalities. The room also contains several essential rehabilitation machines.
Under the direction of certified athletic trainers Wes Brown, Stacy Downar, Margery Ellis and Barry Lippman, the 1,732-square foot center serves 300+ students athletes on a daily basis.
The staff is responsible for educating student-athletes on injury prevention techniques. The atmosphere also provides students with the desire to be an athletic trainer an opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on experience within the recently accredited undergraduate program.
With the increase in space, the addition of the latest equipment, and the accessibility of several team physicians, student-athletes at UNCW are cared for in an efficient manner.
