WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Senior Stephanie Rose was named Co-Player-of-the-Week and freshman Morgan Leyble was tabbed Rookie-of-the-Week as the Colonial Athletic Association handed out its weekly awards on Monday.
"We are delighted that both Stephanie and Morgan were recognized for their outstanding play last weekend," said UNCW Head Coach Paul Cairney. "Both players played a key role in our success against two quality opponents in Charlotte and Davidson and are deserving of the honor. As with any individual award, however, our entire team shares in these accolades."
Both natives of Jacksonville, N.C., Rose and Leyble tallied five points apiece to lead the Seahawks to victories over state foes Charlotte (3-0) and Davidson (3-2) last weekend at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
Against Charlotte, Leyble tallied a goal and an assist while Rose recorded an assist to guide UNCW to its first victory against the 49ers since the 2004 season.
Versus Davidson, Rose tallied four points on one goal and two assists while Leyble scored her second goal in as many contests to give UNCW its fourth victory in five matchups with the Wildcats.
UNCW (2-2-1) returns to action Friday as it takes on Campbell at 7:30 p.m. in action in the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
