RICHMOND, Virginia - Junior Ali Miller scored twice and sophomore Dianna Marinaro added two assists to lead Delaware to a 4-0 victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Friday at Sports Backer Stadium.
The Blue Hens improved to 9-6-3 overall and 5-3-2 in league play as they moved two points ahead of Hofstra for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming CAA Championship. The Seahawks slipped to 3-15 and 1-9 with the loss.
The contest served as the makeup of their previously meeting that was postponed in late September due to inclement weather.
Miller staked the Blue Hens to the early advantage as she struck from just outside the top of the box at the 11:20 mark. Marinaro was credited with an assist on the play.
Miller doubled the Delaware advantage to 2-0 in the 58th minute, using a feed from junior Tania Domingos to get behind the Seahawks defense before slotting a ball into the lower left-hand corner of the net for her team-leading 11th goal of the campaign.
Senior Amy Pickard stretched the Delaware cushion to 3-0 when she put home a loose ball inside the box at the 63:39 mark. The goal was Pickard's 10th of the season.
Senior Stacie Dulkis closed out the scoring at the 84:00 mark as she knocked home a cross from Marinaro inside the box for her second goal of the season.
Senior Breanna Stemler made three saves for the Blue Hens to record her fourth shutout of the season. Junior Caitlin Hunter tallied four saves between the pipes for the Seahawks.
Delaware held an 18-14 advantage in shots during the contest and posted a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks taken. Senior Erin Pardini and junior Kim Currie attempted a team-high three shots apiece for the Seahawks.
Both teams close out the regular season Sunday with home matches. UNCW hosts Georgia State while Delaware entertains Drexel. Both contests are set for 1 p.m. kickoffs.
