RICHMOND, Virginia - Freshman Cristin Granados scored the only goal of the game in the 88th minute lead VCU to a 1-0 victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Friday at Sports Backer Stadium.

The Rams improved to 4-7-2 on the season and 2-2-1 in league play while the Seahawks dropped to 2-10 and 0-4. Both teams return to action Sunday with league matches. UNCW is at JMU for a 2 p.m. kickoff while VCU hosts Georgia State in a 1 p.m. start.

"Our team played hard for each other tonight," said UNCW Head Coach Paul Cairney. "We need to keep working and find a way to win close games. VCU is a good team and they created quality chances tonight."

Granados notched the decisive tally at the 87:22 mark when her corner kick deflected off UNCW keeper Caitlin Hunter and inside the near post for her third goal of the season.

The Seahawks attempted to counter the VCU tally in the final seconds, earning a corner kick in the 89th minute that saw junior Kim Currie find senior Erin Pardini deep in the box, but Pardini's header went wide of the goal.

VCU posted a 17-9 shot advantage in the contest while both sides were each awarded four corner kicks. Hunter finished with nine saves between the pipes for the Seahawks while junior Kristin Carden recorded one save in goal for the Rams.
