WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Under sunny skies, the UNCW women’s soccer team officially opened preseason training Wednesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Veteran coach Paul Cairney, entering his 18th season as head coach, welcomes back 18 letterwinners and six starters from last season’s squad that finished 12-7-3 overall and advanced to the title game of the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship for the second time in four seasons. Cairney will also have plenty of fresh faces on the field as 12 newcomers are part of the preseason roster.

The Seahawks will continue preseason training through the remainder of the week in preparation for its exhibition contest against Campbell on Aug. 12. UNCW will travel to Elon Aug. 17 for a second exhibition matchup before opening the regular season Aug. 23 at South Carolina. UNCW begins the home portion of its 2013 schedule Sept. 13 against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi in the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational.
