WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Senior striker Stephanie Rose struck twice as the UNCW women's soccer team raced out to a 2-0 lead at halftime and cruised to a 3-0 shutout of visiting Campbell in the second game of the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational Friday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

UNCW, 3-2-1, used long stretches of possession and solid defense to post its third shutout of the season. Troy edged Elon, 2-1, in the second overtime period in the tournament opener.

Campbell, 2-1-1, was not able to break through the Seahawks' defense throughout the night, and only managed six shots in the 90 minutes.

Rose opened the scoring early in the eighth minute when she found herself on the receiving end of an early cross played by midfielder Natalie Winslow. Rose beat her defender to the ball before taking one touch and beating Campbell keeper Ryann Torrero into the bottom right corner.

Senior midfielder Kim Currie doubled UNCW's lead when she was played through by Rose to the top of the 18-yard box, where she slid the ball past Torrero to extend the score to 2-0 going into the half.

It only took five minutes into the second half for Rose to once again find the net.  She put the game out of reach with her second goal of the game and the 23rd strike of her four-year career.  The Jacksonville, N.C., product took advantage of an errant Campbell pass and beat one defender to score unassisted and increase the lead to 3-0.

The Seahawks outshot the Camels, 21-6, overall and tallied seven corner kicks on the night.

Both teams will be back in action Sunday in the second day of the tourney. UNCW plays host to Troy at Noon and Campbell faces off against Elon at 2:30 pm.
