WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's soccer team entertains national power UNC Chapel Hill in a preseason exhibition Wednesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
Kickoff for the Seahawks and Tar Heels is set for 6 p.m. Tickets for the exhibition will be $10 for adults, with admission free for youths 15-under. All UNCW students, faculty and staff will be admitted for free with their university ID.
The Seahawks, who opened preseason training last Friday, will be led by senior forward Stephanie Rose, who earned Third-Team All-CAA accolades in 2011 after pacing the Seahawks in scoring with 10 points on a team-high five goals. She enters her senior season seventh on the program's all-time scoring list (48 pts) and needs just six points to move into a four-way tie for fourth on the career list. Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Hunter also returns following a junior season that saw her record 101 saves and two shutouts in 17 starts.
Winners of 21 national championships, the Tar Heels looks to regain their standing at the top of the collegiate ranks in 2012 after falling in the third round of the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons. Junior Kealia Ohai, a 2011 Hermann Watch List selection, is back to lead the attack for Coach Anson Dorrance's squad after finishing her sophomore season with 18 points on a team-best six goals and six assists. Redshirt senior goalie Adelaide Gay also returns after a posting a 0.40 goals against average and 23 saves in 18 starts one year ago.
