WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Wilmington women's basketball Head Coach Ann Hancock teamed up with fellow Colonial Athletic Association coaches Krista Kilburn-Steveskey (Hofstra), Wendy Larry (Old Dominion) and Debbie Taylor (William & Mary) Monday to take part in the second annual 4KayTM Golf Classic, presented by Nike, at the Grandover Resort and Golf Course in Greensboro, N.C.
"The second annual 4KayTM Golf Classic was an awesome event for a truly worthwhile cause," said Hancock." "It was really amazing to see so many people in our industry take time out of their busy schedules to donate their time and resources. I was also impressed with the ability of what is an ultra-competitive group of people to put their differences aside and come together to raise money for the cause."
Hancock was one of 153 women's basketball coaches, administrators and supporters to take part in the event that raised more than $175,000 for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund®, a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. The Fund is named in honor of former North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who passed away in February 2009 after a lengthy battle with Breast Cancer.
The Seahawks have been active participants in the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund® initiative, hosting an annual "Pink Zone" contest during the WBCA's yearly dedicated window to raise money and awareness for the fund. Assistant Coaches Trent Bunn, Jimmy Garrity and Director of Women's Basketball Operations Mike Merrill also took part in the second annual 4K Kay Run at the 2009 Women's Final Four in St. Louis.
