UPPER MARLBORO, Maryland - Sophomore guard Abria Trice has been named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2012 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Championship.
Trice becomes just the third player in program history to earn the distinction, joining former UNCW standouts Shameka Montgomery (2002) and Chandra Watkins (2000) on the exclusive list.
Trice averaged 17.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals in leading the fifth-seeded Seahawks to victories over Georgia State (66-59) and Hofstra (94-87) and a second straight semifinals appearance. The Atlanta, Ga., product shot 44 percent (19-of-43) from the floor, 55 percent (6-of-11) from three-point range and 73 percent (8-of-11) from the free-throw line in three games.
Trice opened the tournament with a 15-point, six-rebound effort against the Panthers before exploding for a career-highs in points (33) and steals (four) in UNCW's quarterfinal-round victory over Hofstra. The 33-point outburst by Trice against the Pride represented the highest single-game point total for a UNCW player since the 1999-2000 season. She finished the championship with four points and four rebounds in a loss to eventual tournament champion Delaware.
UNCW (20-12) will learn its postseason fate Monday as the teams that will participate in the NCAA and Postseason WNIT will be announced.
