WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women’s basketball team takes to the road for the first time in Colonial Athletic Association play Sunday as it begins a two-game road swing with a 3:30 p.m. matchup against VCU.

The game will be televised on the Comcast Sports Network as well as Time Warner Cable in the Wilmington market as part of the CAA’s television package. Jon Gurevitch will handle the play-by-play duties while Jodie Lavin-Patrick will provide color commentary.

The Seahawks (8-5; 1-1 CAA) enter Sunday’s matchup looking to continue their winning ways after posting their third straight victory and sixth win in seven contests with a 60-53 victory over visiting Northeastern on Thursday.

Playing in front of a near-capacity crowd of 4,741 at Trask Coliseum, junior Ayoola Weaver poured in a career-high 17 points and sophomore Alisha Andrews added 10 for UNCW, who shot 44.6 percent from the field and matched a season-low with just 14 turnovers. Junior Tawanna Lee continued her solid play, chipping in eight points to go along with a game-high five assists.

VCU (8-5; 1-1 CAA) will attempt to halt its first two-game losing skid of the season after falling 64-43 Thursday at two-time defending CAA Tournament champion James Madison.

Senior Courtney Hurt, ranked among the top 10 players in the nation in both scoring (23.3/6th) and rebounding (12.1/4th), guides the Rams lineup while fellow senior Andrea Barbour compliments Hurt as she resides in second on the team’s scoring (16.9) and rebounding (6.2) charts. Freshman point guard Christina Carter serves as the team’s top playmaker for veteran coach Beth Cunningham’s club with 38 assists this season.

Sunday’s contest marks the 39th meeting between UNC Wilmington and VCU. The Rams hold a 22-16 edge in the all-time series and have won four of the last five meetings. The two sides split their season series a year ago, with both teams defending their home floors. VCU posted a 70-58 victory at the Siegel Center on Jan. 6, while UNCW got revenge four weeks later with a 68-64 overtime victory at Trask on Feb. 3.

UNCW wraps up its two-game league road swing Jan. 12 with a trip to the Blue Hen State for a 7 p.m. contest against No. 21 Delaware.
