Release: 03/08/2011 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNC Wilmington women's basketball team remained in 16th place in the latest Collegeinsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, released Tuesday. Ranked for the eighth straight week and the ninth time this season, the Seahawks maintained their highest position in the poll this season after closing out the regular season with a 79-77 setback at regular-season champion James Madison on March 2. The CAA maintains a strong presence in the Mid-Major Poll as the Seahawks are one of three CAA teams ranked in the weekly listing that includes teams from 22 Division I Conferences. James Madison moved up two spots to sixth with its win over the Seahawks last Wednesday that earned the Dukes the regular-season title while Old Dominion slipped two spots to 14th after falling in its final regular season contest at Drexel. Virginia Commonwealth finds itself just outside the poll as it is among the teams also receiving votes. The Seahawks (22-7) are the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Virginia 529 College Savings Plan CAA Women's Basketball Championship, scheduled for March 10-13 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. UNCW will receive a first-round bye and is slated to open the championship in the quarterfinal round with a 7:30 p.m. contest Friday against the winner of the No.6 Drexel versus No. 11 Towson first-round matchup. |
