WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNC Wilmington women's basketball team moved up two spots to 16th place in the latest Collegeinsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, released Tuesday.
Ranked for the seventh straight week and the eighth time this season, the Seahawks claimed their highest position in the poll this season after recording blowout victories over Towson and George Mason last week to match the program's single-season mark for wins with 22.
The CAA maintains a strong presence in the Mid-Major Poll as the Seahawks are one of three CAA teams ranked in the weekly listing that includes teams from 22 Division I Conferences. League-leading James Madison remained in eighth as it saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end while Old Dominion moved up two spots this week to 12th after posting wins against William and Mary and Delaware. Virginia Commonwealth finds itself just outside the poll as it is ninth among the teams also receiving votes.
UNCW (22-6; 14-3 CAA) closes out the regular season Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest at league-leading James Madison. The Seahawks can earn a share of the CAA regular-season title with a victory over the Dukes and can secure the top seed in the upcoming 2011 Virgina 529 College Savings Plan CAA Women's Basketball Championship with a win Wednesday and a loss by Old Dominion at Drexel.
