The Seahawks (4-24: 3-11 CAA) are back in action after halting an eight-game losing skid with a dramatic 60-59 victory over Towson in their home finale on Sunday. Junior Kelva Atkins scored 23 points, including a pair of free throws with 1.4 seconds remaining, to lead UNCW to its third one-point victory of the season. Freshman Brie Mobley joined Atkins in double figures with 11 while fellow freshman Ryan Flowers pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to help the Seahwaks enjoy a 35-26 advantage on the glass.

Atkins’ heroics against the Tigers helped the Stem, N.C., product earn CAA Co-Player-of-the-Week accolades on Monday; sharing the award with James Madison’s Kirby Burkholder. In the Seahawks final two home contests of the season, Atkins averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and 86.7 percent from the free throw line as she played 79 of a possible 80 minutes.

In the midst of a three-game losing streak, Drexel (12-14; 7-6 CAA) returns home after suffering a 78-73 double-overtime setback at Northeastern on Sunday. Sophomore Rachael Pearson continues to lead the team in scoring (10.7) while freshman Sarah Curran puts the finishing touches on a solid freshman season that has her second on the team with a 9.7 points per game average. Senior Fiona Flanagan paces the Dragon’s rebounding efforts with 5.9 caroms per contest and is first in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.2) to highlight a Dragons lineup that leads the circuit in assists per game (16.2).

Thursday’s contest marks the 22nd meeting between the two programs, all of which have occurred since Drexel joined the CAA prior to the start of the 2001-02 season. The Dragons hold a 13-8 edge in the series and have won each of the last four meetings between the programs, including a 57-43 triumph at Trask Coliseum on Feb. 9.

UNCW returns to action March 5 when it closes out the regular season with a 7 p.m. contest at College of Charleston.
